Softball Preview: Hot Frederick Meets Struggling Centaurus

The Frederick Golden Eagles will challenge The Centaurus Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Frederick has four straight wins, Centaurus has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Frederick duked it out with Dakota Ridge on Saturday. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 8-2 victory. The Golden Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Zoey Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 while posting 1 home run, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs. She has also been pretty much perfect as far as strikeouts are concerned: she hasn't struck out any for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Alena Starr, who went a perfect 2-for-2 while logging 2 RBIs, 1 double, and 1 stolen base.

Frederick kept the fielders on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They have not posted that few hits since the 28th, when they had seven hits.

Meanwhile, Centaurus came up short against Mullen on Saturday and fell 9-6.

Centaurus saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emery Fannin, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances while logging 1 double, 1 stolen base, and 1 RBI. The game also marked Fannin's fifth in a row where she got on base at least two times.

The win improved Frederick's record to 5-2. As for Centaurus, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
