Baseball Recap: Chiefland Takes a Loss

Chiefland was the 4-2 winner over Fort White when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. Chiefland fell just short of Fort White by a score of 4-3 on Monday. That's two games in a row now that Chiefland has lost by just one run.

Hunter Boyd was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Chiefland is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Luke Watkins and Trey Meeks stepped up to the plate in a big way. Watkins went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Meeks went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double. That home run was Watkins' first of the season.

Chiefland has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. Fort White's win bumped their record up to 9-7.

Coming up, Chiefland will head out to take on P.K. Yonge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chiefland's pitchers better be ready for this one: P.K. Yonge has averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Fort White, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastside at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort White is facing Eastside at the right time seeing as Eastside is stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
