It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Fort Myers had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Gulf Coast Sharks 7-6. This was a revenge game for the Green Wave: when they faced off against the Sharks on Wednesday, they had to take a 6-3 defeat.
Owen Augustine tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cory Banasiak was excellent, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Madrid Tucker, who went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Fort Myers' record now sits at 17-10. As for Gulf Coast, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-13.
