Basketball Recap: Wagener-Salley Comes Up Short

Wagener-Salley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Calhoun County Saints and fell 65-26. The War Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-14.

Cassidy Pough was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 13 boards for Calhoun County. Pough also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Calhoun County is 4-1 when she posts at least five steals, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Raniya Tyler, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine steals.

Wagener-Salley's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Calhoun County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8.

Looking ahead, Wagener-Salley is taking a road trip to take on North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. As for Calhoun County, they will be playing at home against Williston-Elko at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Calhoun County is on a three-game streak of home wins, Williston-Elko a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
