Basketball Recap: Autumn Settles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Dolores over Monticello

Dolores fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Monticello on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Monticello Buckaroo 54-48. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Buckaroo recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Dolores lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Autumn Settles, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, Settles is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Emilynn Hill was another key player, putting up six points along with six steals and five assists.

Even though they lost, Dolores smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Leading Monticello to victory were Makenna Peterson and Maron Freestone. Peterson dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards, while Freestone posted 14 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Peterson has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

Dolores' record is now 2-7. As for Monticello, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-9.

Dolores wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 38-37 win against Ridgway on the 11th. As for Monticello, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-30 defeat against San Juan on the 9th.
