Baseball Recap: Newport Comes Up Short

Newport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 44th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 20-0 to the Highlands Bluebirds. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Newport saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Donovan Macario, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Macario is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Highlands, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Newport will challenge rival Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Highlands is set to face off against their familiar foe Bellevue at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
