Softball Game Preview: Burleson Elks vs. Centennial Spartans

Burleson is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Centennial is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Elks will host the Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burleson knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Centennial likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Burleson made easy work of Seguin and carried off a 13-3 victory. Considering the Elks have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Lanie Bedwell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Lola Andrews, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Burleson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seguin only posted an OBP of .391.

Meanwhile, Centennial had just enough and edged out Joshua 6-4 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Owls: they've now won seven in a row.

Madison Haynes was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Bruner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Burleson is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their win bumped their record up to 21-6.
