Merritt Island is 1-9 against Viera since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Elena Rollen was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Rollen is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleena Walker, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Even though they lost, Merritt Island hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sebastian River struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Viera, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Melbourne on Tuesday.
The team relied heavily on Kamryn Potts, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Madison Rider was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Viera now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Merritt Island, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Merritt Island's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. Merritt Island has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Viera, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Merritt Island continue to outrun the ball?
Merritt Island came out on top in a nail-biter against Viera when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Does Merritt Island have another victory up their sleeve, or will Viera turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
