Softball Recap: Jefferson Area Has No Trouble Against Struthers

Jefferson Area had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Struthers on Thursday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Wildcats. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Olivia Lewis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Jefferson Area got a massive performance out of Alaina Barress, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Barress a new career-high. Ava Valenti also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Jefferson Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Jefferson Area's record now sits at 13-11. As for Struthers, their loss dropped their record down to 4-20.

Coming up, Jefferson Area will be playing at home against Pymatuning Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Struthers does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
