Basketball Recap: Mentor Victorious

If Glenville wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Mentor, they should've done a better job of containing Kobe Frasure-Azzano. The Mentor Cardinals came out on top against the Glenville Tarblooders by a score of 76-66 on Saturday thanks to Frasure-Azzano, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. He has become a key player for Mentor: the team is 10-2 when he posts at least ten boards, but 3-5 otherwise.

Dominic Baroni was another key player, putting up five points in addition to 12 rebounds and five blocks. Those 12 boards gave him a new career-high.

Defeat or not, Glenville got some senior leadership from Braylyn Irby and Xavier Vickerstaff. Irby posted 20 points and six rebounds, while Vickerstaff dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards. The game was Vickerstaff's third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Theo Castro, who put up two points.

Mentor's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Glenville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-6.

Mentor and Glenville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Mentor (ranked 50th) will meet Medina (ranked 155th) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mentor is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 77.3 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Glenville will take on Lincoln West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday up 658 places (129 vs. 787).
