West Genesee is 2-8 against Cicero-North Syracuse since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Northstars at 4:30 p.m. West Genesee will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
West Genesee will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Baldwinsville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats came out on top against the Bees by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday.
Alanna Bowman was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyra Lynch, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cicero-North Syracuse beat Oak Glen 7-3 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Northstars.
Kiyara Bembry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Cicero-North Syracuse got a big performance out of Marisa Leone, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Aubrey Coyle also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Cicero-North Syracuse kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
West Genesee's record now sits at 4-2. As for Cicero-North Syracuse, their record is now 3-1.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Genesee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Cicero-North Syracuse struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Genesee couldn't quite get it done against Cicero-North Syracuse in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
