Basketball Recap: Winn Comes Up Short

Winn played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Jay Mustangs and fell 85-33. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1214th, while the Mustangs are ranked 250th).

Jay got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mikayla Garcia out in front who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. What's more, Garcia also racked up four steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emmarie Baldwin, who went 7 of 16 en route to 19 points along with six boards and six steals.

Winn has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 16 of their last 17 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season. As for Jay, they pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Winn will welcome Southside at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Jay, they will venture away from home to take on Southwest Legacy at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Southwest Legacy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
