Baseball Game Preview: Covenant Day Lions vs. Hopewell Titans

The Covenant Day Lions will face off against the Hopewell Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Covenant Day 1.7, Hopewell 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Covenant Day saw some tournament action on Monday. They came out on top against Palisades by a score of 7-2.

James Cosper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brode Dixon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Price, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Dixon wasn't the only one making solid contact: Covenant Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Palisades only managed six hits.

Myers Park typically has all the answers at home, but on Monday Hopewell proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mustangs, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted since February 24th.

Hopewell is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Covenant Day, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.

Covenant Day might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from Hopewell in their previous matchup back in April of 2015. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
