Basketball Recap: Heritage Comes Up Short

Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 72-19 loss at the hands of the Legend Titans. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Titans are ranked sixth).

Naomi Sanchez was Heritage's leading scorer, having posted six points. Sanchez also led the team in assists with two. Skylar Peterson held things down on the boards with six rebounds.

It was another big night for Mason Borcherding, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards for Legend. With that strong performance, Borcherding is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Maile Starns, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 10 points and four steals.

Heritage's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Legend, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Heritage will be playing in front of their home fans against Rock Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rock Canyon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Heritage likes a good challenge. As for Legend, they will venture away from home to challenge Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Legend is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.7 points per game this season.
