Basketball Recap: Tipton Comes Up Short

On Tuesday, the Tipton Cardinals were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 70-64 to the Harrisburg Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 392nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 75th).

When it comes to explaining why Tipton lost, don't look at Dane Schlotzhauer. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-14 en route to 22 points. The dominant performance also gave Schlotzhauer a new career-high in field goal percentage (57%). Another player making a difference was Ben Bestgen, who posted 11 points and five assists.

Tipton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 38.4% in those games and 29.4% outside of them. As for Harrisburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-4.

Tipton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-61 win against New Bloomfield on the 7th. As for Harrisburg, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 74-44 victory against Russellville on the 11th.
