Basketball Recap: Peru Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Peru won the last time they faced Lewis Cass and things went their way on Saturday too. The Peru Tigers walked away with a 61-53 win over the Lewis Cass Kings. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 178th, while the Kings are ranked 408th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gavin Eldridge continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 19 points and seven assists. Another player making a difference was Zion See, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points.

Peru smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Despite the defeat, Lewis Cass had strong showings from Brennan Deeter, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 19 points, and Trey Johnson, who posted 14 points. Those 19 points gave Deeter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Rudd, who put up seven points.

Peru pushed their record up to 4-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Lewis Cass, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Peru didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-49 win against Caston on the 27th. As for Lewis Cass, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-49 loss against New Prairie on the 27th.
