Luther takes loss despite strong efforts from Gavin Vestal and Tristan Elcock

Recap: Luther Cougars vs. Staten Island Academy Tigers
After flying high against Schechter on Tuesday, the Luther Cougars came back down to earth. Luther took a 75-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of Staten Island Academy on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Luther's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tristan Elcock, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Gavin Vestal who scored ten points along with nine assists. Those nine assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Justin Trail, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Luther now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Staten Island Academy, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Luther will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Kew Forest at 5:30 p.m. on January 11th. Kew Forest is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Staten Island Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against St. Ann's at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
