Basketball Game Preview: Pine City Dragons vs. Mora Mustangs

The Pine City Dragons will head out to take on the Mora Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Monday, Pine City strolled past North Branch with points to spare, taking the game 68-51.

Meanwhile, Mora came tearing into Tuesday's contest with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured an 86-82 W against the Lions. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Lions are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mora's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 89.3 points over those games. As for Pine City, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-13 record this season.

Pine City took a serious blow against Mora when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 77-48. Can Pine City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
