Basketball Recap: Kamryn Stephens' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cornerstone Charter over Phoenix Academy

Cornerstone Charter was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They fell 43-34 to the Phoenix Academy Firebirds. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Firebirds earlier this season, when they won 48-47.

Several Cardinals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kamryn Stephens, who posted eight points and eight rebounds. That's the most boards Stephens has posted since back in November of 2024. Amilli Shaw was another key player, putting up five points.

Among those leading the charge was Destiny Kinsey, who earned 24 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Her evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Kinsey, who put up eight points and six boards.

Cornerstone Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Phoenix Academy, they pushed their record up to 10-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Cornerstone Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-31 loss against College Prep & Leadership Academy on the 7th. As for Phoenix Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 86-35 defeat against Wesleyan Christian Academy on the 6th.
