Volleyball Recap: Father McGivney Catholic Takes a Loss

Father McGivney Catholic was the 2-0 winner over Granite City when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Griffins fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 2-1 on Monday. While the Griffins didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 25-16 in the first set.

Father McGivney Catholic started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Owen Kolesa paced Father McGivney Catholic's offense, picking up six kills. Kolesa got some help from Dax Lieberman and his 11 assists.

Father McGivney Catholic's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Granite City, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Father McGivney Catholic will challenge Alton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Granite City, they will square off against Althoff Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
