Baseball Recap: Clearwater Central Catholic Triumphs

While Clearwater Central Catholic's win against St. Petersburg Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Marauders had just enough and edged out the Barons 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Marauders in their matchups with the Barons: they've now won nine in a row.

Clearwater Central Catholic got a great performance from Josh Rodrigues as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Rodrigues a new career-high.

At the plate, Cooper Riley was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Clearwater Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-11.

Coming up, Clearwater Central Catholic will take on Northside Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Marauders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Petersburg Catholic, they will venture away from home to challenge Tampa Prep at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
