Football Game Preview: Mitchell Tigers vs. Kearney Catholic Stars

The Mitchell Tigers will take on the Kearney Catholic Stars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Mitchell: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Kearney Catholic has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.

On Friday, Mitchell came up short against Valentine and fell 28-21.

Despite their loss, Mitchell saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Michael Plasencio, who rushed for 111 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards and one touchdown, was perhaps the best of all. Josh Hazzard was another key rusher, rushing for 96 yards on only 11 carries.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kearney Catholic). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Gordon-Rushville 47-16. With the Stars ahead 33-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Kearney Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Mitchell came out on top in a nail-biter against Kearney Catholic in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 41-38. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Stars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
