Basketball Recap: Imhotep Charter Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Imhotep Charter had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.7 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They took down the West Philadelphia Speedboys 76-60. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Speedboys are ranked 115th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Philadelphia's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Khabir Washington, who posted 17 points and eight assists. Washington is becoming a predictor of West Philadelphia's success: when he posts at least eight assists the team is 12-5 (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Makel Butts was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Imhotep Charter pushed their record up to 20-5 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.5 points. As for West Philadelphia, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Looking ahead, Imhotep Charter will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 15 matchups. West Philadelphia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
