Softball Recap: Staples Comes Up Short

Staples managed to slip by Stamford the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Wreckers came up short against the Black Knights on Friday, falling 10-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ellie Stauder was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Emillie Russell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Staples' defeat was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Stamford, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Staples will venture away from home to challenge Darien at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Wave's pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so the Wreckers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Stamford, they will head out on the road to face off against Ridgefield at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
