The Dunbar Poets will venture away from home to face off against Academy for College and Career Exploration at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Dunbar will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Dunbar had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Forest Park on Thursday. The Poets were the clear victors by a 16-10 margin over the Foresters. The victory continues a trend for the Poets in their matchups with the Foresters: they've now won three in a row.
Angel Chavarria was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Chavarria was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Kevin Delcid looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Dunbar got a massive performance out of Zion Foster, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Foster's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Parks, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs.
Dunbar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Academy for College and Career Exploration came out on top against Carver Vo-Tech on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. Academy for College and Career Exploration blew past Carver Vo-Tech 14-4.
Dylan Wollet was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Turpin, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Dunbar's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Academy for College and Career Exploration, their record is now 2-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dunbar has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Academy for College and Career Exploration struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dunbar beat Academy for College and Career Exploration 17-13 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Poets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
