Mifflin is 0-10 against Whetstone since April of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Punchers will head out on the road to challenge the Braves at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mifflin lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Beechcroft, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Punchers blew past the Cougars 13-3 on Monday. The win was familiar territory for the Punchers, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Wilfred Torres and Adrian Hernandez were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Torres struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs but no hits. Meanwhile, Hernandez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Torres went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Hernandez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Francis Awuah, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Jeff Martinez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Mifflin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .606 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Whetstone won against Rhodes on Saturday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. The Braves' pitchers stepped up to hand Columbus International a 15-0 shutout. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Mifflin pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Whetstone, their record now sits at 14-4.
Mifflin couldn't quite get it done against Whetstone in their previous matchup two weeks ago as they fell 7-3. Can the Punchers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
