League recap: Carrigan breaks off league-leading run for Encinal

West Alameda County - Foothill recap Oct. 3, 2012

Tyrell Carrigan of Encinal ran for the longest rushing play in West Alameda County - Foothill this season against Alameda last week. Carrigan ran for 97 yards on the play and finished with 106 on the day as his team topped the Hornets.

Encinal's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Taivale Tautalatasi threw for nine yards and Corey Sails had nine yards receiving.

Berkeley's LAMONT SMITH and XAVIER NELSON have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. SMITH has thrown for 376 yards this season, while NELSON, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has nine catches for 146 yards. Sails from Joe Tenorio's team leads the league in rushing with 291 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Bishop O'Dowd takes on second place Encinal. Bishop O'Dowd defeated Arroyo last week, while the Jets topped Alameda.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Encinal takes on the Dragons. The Jets have allowed 117 points this season, while Bishop O'Dowd has given up 123. Encinal allowed 15 points last week as it defeated the Hornets.

Hayward made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,023 from 8,220. The improvement came about via a 55-15 victory over the Farmers last week.
