Not much got past Bronwynn Leighty, who gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks to keep Dublin Scioto off the board. Leighty has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hayes got a massive performance out of Laurel Day, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Day launched this season. McKenna Coleman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Day wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Hayes lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dublin Scioto didn't launched any home runs.
Meanwhile, Westland came up short against Centennial on Saturday, falling 17-7.
Sophie Harris was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Payton Justice, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Hayes pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Westland, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Westland's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hayes hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323.
