Softball Recap: Westland Hialeah Wildcats vs. Hialeah Gardens Gladiators
Westland Hialeah had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it five. They came up short against the Hialeah Gardens Gladiators, falling 19-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Wildcats haven't been shut out since back in March.
As for Hialeah Gardens, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by nine runs or more this season.
For Hialeah Gardens' part, they let Krystal Martinez and Thalia Hare run wild. Martinez went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Hare went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Martinez has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Delania Aleman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westland Hialeah will challenge Hialeah Educational Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hialeah Gardens, they will face off against Mater Lakes Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
