Baseball Recap: Calhoun Triumphs

Calhoun proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Trevor Day Dragons 6-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-3 back in April.

Quentin Ruffin was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with two runs. He has become a key player for Calhoun: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-6 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Calhoun got a great performance from Brian Stone as he struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Stone has posted since back in April.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Julian Glasgow, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Calhoun is undefeated when Glasgow posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise. Ryan Shah also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Calhoun is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Trevor Day, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Calhoun didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 19-11 defeat against Browning on the 8th. Trevor Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
