Baseball Recap: Luling's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak at Home

Luling's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Mustangs back in March, they had to take a 5-3 loss.

Kade Samuelson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kase Conley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Christian Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Luling's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15. As for Nixon-Smiley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Luling and Nixon-Smiley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Eagles will take on Poth at 7:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (1136 vs. 440). Meanwhile, Nixon-Smiley (ranked 1215th) will meet Karnes City (ranked 498th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
