Softball Recap: Russell Comes Up Short

Russell extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Skyview Falcons. The Rustlers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Georgia Hatzenbeller and Kaylei Schultz-Palagi stepped up to the plate in a big way. Hatzenbeller went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Schultz-Palagi went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. That home run was Schultz-Palagi's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Dean, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Skyview, the win got them back to even at 3-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Russell since May 4, 2019.

On Skyview's side, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Hjelm, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Ruby Sheridan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Russell wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 10-2 loss against Gallatin on the 15th. As for Skyview, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 17-7 win against Billings West on the 15th.
