Softball Recap: West Stanly's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

West Stanly came tearing into Tuesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Central Academy Cougars 9-1. Considering the Colts have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Madi Whitley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Kennedy Austin was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Saylor Edwards, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Austin wasn't the only one working in the hit department: West Stanly kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

West Stanly's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Central Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Stanly will host Mooresville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Central Academy, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Central Academy Cougars challenge Anson Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
