St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) topped No. 21
Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) 28-7 in a matchup of the No. 1 team in Ohio and the No. 2 squad in Maryland.
It was the first game for Good Counsel and the second for St. Edward, which was coming off a 27-10 win over Center Grove, the top team in Indiana.
With the game tied up heading into the second half, St. Edward scored 14 unanswered points to take a 21-7 lead before winning 28-7.
St. Edward scored first in the game on a defensive touchdown. Good Counsel snapped the ball high and past the quarterback from its own 38-yard line. As players from both teams dove for the ball, it kept getting hit backwards and it wound up in the end zone where St. Edward senior linebacker
Eddie Andrews pounced on the ball with 7:40 to play in the first quarter.

During the next St. Edward possession, sophomore defensive back
Faheem Delane intercepted a pass to give Good Counsel the ball in the red zone. Two plays later senior Wisconsin running back commit
Dilin Jones ran in a 9-yard touchdown to knot the game up 7-7 late in the first quarter.
With three seconds to play in the first half, St. Edward heaved the ball near the end zone where it was caught a couple inches short of the goal line, to send the teams to the locker room all tied up.
St. Edward was successful on its first drive of the second half. Following a massive offensive line that includes Ohio State commits
Devontae Armstrong and
Deontae Armstrong as well as Michigan commit
Ben Roebuck, the Eagles went on a 15-play drive that spanned more than seven minutes. The Eagles converted two fourth downs on the possession and finished the drive with a 6-yard touchdown run from senior quarterback
Casey Bullock.
The Eagles forced a sack and a bad punt on Good Counsel’s ensuing possession. Starting inside the 10-yard line, St. Edward opened the game up on a touchdown from senior running back
Josh Groudle to take a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter.
St. Edward tacked on another touchdown with eight minutes to play in the game when Bullock hit senior
Brian Sullivan for a 20-yard score.
Good Counsel will now face
Jones (Orlando), a top 25 team in Florida. St. Edward will take on a third straight out-of-state opponent in
Rock Creek Christian Academy (Upper Marlboro, Md.).
