Softball Game Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Leavitt Hornets

For the second straight game, Morse will face off against Leavitt. The Shipbuilders will venture away from home to face off against the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Morse has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Morse fell victim to Leavitt and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Hornets, falling 13-0. The Shipbuilders have struggled against the Hornets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

For Leavitt's part, Hailey Cyr made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Cyr has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Leah Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Gabby Smith was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

The win keeps Leavitt at an undefeated 10-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.2 runs this season. As for Morse, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
