Baseball Game Preview: Piedmont Hills Pirates vs. Oak Grove Eagles

For the second straight game, Piedmont Hills will face off against Oak Grove. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing is sure in Piedmont Hills' favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Oak Grove has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

Piedmont Hills had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Oak Grove on Tuesday. The Pirates were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Pirates have won ten games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Piedmont Hills got a great performance from JT Tagud as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave Tagud a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josh Gomez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Donte Butler, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Piedmont Hills is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Oak Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 3-19.
