Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newark). They greeted the New Year with with a 66-52 victory over the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats who have now won nine matches in a row.

Newark's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.5 points per game. As for Mt. Vernon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.

Newark and Mt. Vernon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Newark (ranked 29th) will meet Teays Valley (ranked 435th) at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon will face off against Newark Catholic at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday up 390 places (250 vs. 640).
