Softball Game Preview: Richmond Raiders vs. Scotland Fighting Scots

Richmond hasn't had much luck against Scotland recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Raiders will square off against the Fighting Scots at 7:00 p.m. Richmond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Last Monday, Richmond was able to grind out a solid victory over Anson, taking the game 9-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.

Madee Pearson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kinsie Lyerly, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Jakayla Steele was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Scotland waltzed into their match on Tuesday with 15 straight wins... but they left with 16. They never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.

Scotland's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.1 runs on average over those games. As for Richmond, their victory bumped their record up to 8-12.

Richmond suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Scotland in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
