Basketball Game Preview: Woodruff Wolverines vs. High Point Academy Grizzlies

The Woodruff Wolverines and the High Point Academy Grizzlies will face off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Woodruff is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Blue Ridge just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 54-24 defeat at the hands of the Fighting Tigers. The contest marked the Wolverines' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ivy Kate Rhodes, who posted two points.

Even though they lost, Woodruff smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, High Point Academy had to suffer through a 52-21 loss at the hands of Chapman.

High Point Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Woodruff, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-2.

Woodruff strolled past High Point Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2018 by a score of 60-42. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was High Point Academy's Taniah Wilkins, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 19 points and five steals. Now that she won't be playing on Saturday, will it be easier for Woodruff to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
