Recap: Savoy Cardinals vs. Sulphur Bluff Bears
The Savoy Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 58-35 loss at the hands of Sulphur Bluff. Savoy has not had much luck with Sulphur Bluff recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Sulphur Bluff got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Matthew Overly out in front who scored 20 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Gunn, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Savoy's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-8. As for Sulphur Bluff, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Savoy will head out on the road to face off against Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Sulphur Bluff will be home for the holidays to greet Bloomburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bloomburg is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
