Football Recap: Leesville Road Skates Past Broughton with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Leesville Road had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed past the Broughton Capitals to the tune of 49-12. Considering the Pride have won seven games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Leesville Road's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Damacio Cueto, who threw for 179 yards and three TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 42 yards and one score. Cueto's passing game has become a key predictor of the Pride's success: the team is 7-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Akshar Barnes was in the mix as well, providing Leesville Road with two touchdowns.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Leesville Road proved: they limited Broughton to a paltry 1.9 yards per carry. While 12 picked up at least one total tackle, Barnes stood above the rest. He rushed for 91 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries. Leesville Road's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.83 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 5.17 on average over their last five games.

Leesville Road didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Adam Sonye and Jacob Edwards. Edwards is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last five games he's played.

The victory made it two in a row for Leesville Road and bumps their season record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 19 points in those games. As for Broughton, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

As of now, neither Leesville Road nor the Capitals have any future games scheduled.
