After low-scoring totals in their previous five contests, Western brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They put the hurt on the South Gallia Rebels with a sharp 12-2 victory on Wednesday. The Indians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Megan Whitley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Penwell, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those runs were her first of the season. Bailey Ison was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and four RBI.

Western kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Western's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for South Gallia, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western will venture away from home to face off against Fairfield at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Gallia, they will head out to take on Clay at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Rebels' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
