Baseball Game Preview: Miami Vandals vs. St. John Paul II Catholic Lions

The Miami Vandals are taking a road trip to take on the St. John Paul II Catholic Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Miami has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight losses, while St. John Paul II Catholic will come in with three straight wins.

Friday just wasn't the day for Miami's offense. They lost 10-0 to Lincoln Prep on Friday.

While St. John Paul II Catholic didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Mohave Accelerated on Friday as St. John Paul II Catholic made off with an 11-5 victory.

Carlos Pedroza and Wyatt Bacome made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Pedroza didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Bacome struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pedroza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Pedroza scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Bacome scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most hits Pedroza has posted since back in March of 2024.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Standage, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

St. John Paul II Catholic's record now sits at 5-2. As for Miami, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
