Basketball Recap: Columbia Comes Up Short at Home Against Gilbert

Columbia unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 59-23 loss at the hands of the Gilbert Indians. The Capitals' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it 23 in a row dating back to last season.

Daeshana Waites was Columbia's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Gilbert was led to victory by Blythe Price and Alexis Gartmon. Price dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards, while Gartmon went 8 of 15 on her way to 20 points and six steals. Those 12 boards gave Price a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Campbell, who posted four points along with six boards and six steals.

Gilbert's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Columbia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-16 loss against Airport on the 6th. As for Gilbert, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-25 defeat against White Knoll on the 5th.
