Basketball Recap: Lejeune Comes Up Short

Lejeune was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 69-17 defeat at the hands of the Neuse Charter Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Devil Pups can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while the Cougars are ranked 105th).

Madison McQueen was Lejeune's leading scorer, having posted seven points.

Leading Neuse Charter to victory were Lily Temple and Yedidia Tsolenyanu. Temple almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, nine assists, and ten steals, while Tsolenyanu posted 24 points along with eight boards and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Tsolenyanu has scored at least a third of Neuse Charter's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayley Cochran, who put up 13 points and five blocks.

Lejeune's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Neuse Charter, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Lejeune won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Lenoir at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lejeune is facing South Lenoir at the right time seeing as South Lenoir is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Neuse Charter, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against West Carteret at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neuse Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.
