Softball Recap: Abingdon Gets the Win

Abingdon barely beat Ridgeview the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons' pitcher stepped up to hand the Wolfpack a 15-0 shutout on Friday. The Falcons have beaten the Wolfpack the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolfpack has come to flipping the script.

Lauren Baker made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brenna Green, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Mariah Branscomb was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

Abingdon's record is now 19-3. As for Ridgeview, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Abingdon is set to challenge their familiar foe Gate City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ridgeview will square off against rival Central Wise at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
