Basketball Recap: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. South Brunswick Cougars
The Ashley Screaming Eagle can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against South Brunswick by a score of 48-37. The victory was just what Ashley needed coming off of a 53-30 loss in their prior game.
Ashley had a senior duo take command as Anna Benfield scored six points along with eight rebounds and six steals and MacKenzie Morton scored 13 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaeden Hudson, who scored eight points.
Despite the loss, South Brunswick saw an underclassman step up: Meryn Deutsch scored 23 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Deutsch has scored all season.
South Brunswick struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Ashley posted 11 assists.
Ashley's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-9. As for South Brunswick, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Ashley will square off against the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Brunswick, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. New Hanover is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.
