Softball Recap: Lyons Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lyons had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Reavis Rams. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sofia Kettaneh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddy Pieroni, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

Lyons hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Reavis struck out 13 times.

Lyons has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Reavis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-12.

Looking ahead, Lyons will square off against Riverside-Brookfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Reavis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
