Baseball Recap: Gibbs Drops Highest Score of Season Against Southeast

Gibbs's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Southeast Seminoles by a score of 6-3. The Gladiators' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Joshua Thornley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Thornley was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Thornley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Thornley, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Ryan a new career-high in hits (two).

Gibbs' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Southeast, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

Gibbs will welcome Foundation Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Foundation Christian Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Gibbs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Southeast, they will head out on the road to challenge Palmetto at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Southeast is facing Palmetto at the right time seeing as Palmetto is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
