Baseball Recap: Bishop Carroll Takes a Loss

If Bishop Carroll was feeling good fresh off their 10-0 takedown of Heights on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Eagles took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Derby Panthers on Monday. The Golden Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 6-1.

Bishop Carroll got a good showing from KJ McGill, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McGill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Niedens was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Bishop Carroll's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Derby, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bishop Carroll will challenge North at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The RedHawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.89 runs per game on average), something the Golden Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Derby, they will be playing at home against Maize South on Friday.
